Scott Bonner's Personal Kata
(as performed on March 2, 2002)
Under Purple Belt Curriculum

Theme:  Multiple strike techniques showing each of the three power principles, half being multiple strike techniques where the strikes follow the same direction of attack, and half where the strikes reverse direction.

Caveats:  Many minor adjustments to position should be made between moves, essentially doing things like moving from lnb facing 9 to a horse facing 10:30, meaning to move the right foot a few inches and hips accordingly.  Step 3 (CF), the adjustment is made while stepping back into lnb.  At step 4 (CW), step  9 (CW opp), and step 12 (SH opp), the foot shift can be incorporated into the “crash”, and at step 6 (LH)  while dropping from punch to stomach before being grabbed in headlock.  When doing step 7 (LH opp), start from a rnb instead of horse, but still facing 6, so that one takes a longer step when executing the first move of LH opp side.

The Personal Kata

1. [Torque different direction] Attacker does a front left hand hair grab from 12 o'clock. From a horse stance facing 12, execute Clutching Feathers, landing in right neutral bow to 12.  (For descriptions of all techniques, see Written Curriculum, under The Flame.)

2. [Back-up Mass different direction] Attacker does a front right front thrust kick from 12 o'clock. From right neutral bow facing 12, execute Deflecting Hammer, landing in right neutral bow facing 12.

3. [Torque different direction] Attacker does a front right hand hair grab from 9. From a right neutral bow facing 12, refocus to 9, then execute Clutching Feathers on the opposite side, landing in horse facing 10:30.

4. [Torque same direction] Attacker does a rear bear hug -- arms free from 4:30. From horse facing 10:30, execute Crashing Wings, landing in a horse stance facing 9.

5. [Back-up Mass same direction] Attacker does a front right front step-through kick from 9. From a horse stance facing 9, execute Thrusting Salute, landing horse stance facing 6.

10. [Marriage of Gravity same direction] Attacker does a full nelson from 3 o'clock. From horse to 9, execute Scraping Hoof (with both sides and with handsword while stepping away from attacker with left foot at end of technique), landing in a horse stance to 12 o'clock.
