| Having a school eventually means you need to have a staff of some sort.
This is especially the case as you begin to grow and need more hands to
accomplish all of the things that need to get done.
Staff appreciation is probably one of the most important topics when
it comes to expanding your martial arts school. Appreciation comes in many
ways just by doing small things for them to make them feel noticed. Another
topic related along this one is that of compensation for your staff. So
both shall be covered. For Staff
Compensation.
I am pretty sure you notice all the things your staff does for you.
But do they know that you know? Do they know that without their
help, your school would not be able to do all that it does? If not, you
had better make it known. Here are some ways to appreciate your staff:
-
Public praise: a powerful way to show your appreciation is to praise your
staff members in public. This puts them on the spotlight in front of their
peers.
-
Compliments: you can really never give enough compliments as long as you
are sincere about them.
-
Keep your word: trust is one of the highest forms of motivation. Never
make false promises.
-
Listen: you can build rapport with staff members by taking the time to
listen to them. Don't pretend like your listening as this defeats the purpose.
Focus on them and listen to what they have to say.
-
Recognition: Even though people fear being in the spotlight, many find
it gratifying to be recognized in front of their peers. This can also mean
a congratulatory email, applause, some kind of award, or just some kind
words. Whether this is in front of co-workers or not, it does make them
feel appreciated.
-
Be Available: If someone thinks you are too busy to deal with them, they
will feel unappreciated. To make them feel important, make sure that make
time for them whenever they need your advice and/or leadership.
-
Lunch: Taking a staff member out to lunch every now and again is one of
the easiest ways to show them appreciation.
Incentives: Monetary rewards are a motivating factor, make no doubt
about it.
-
Incentives: monetary rewards do show how much you appreciate your staff.

-
Birthdays: a touchy one. Make sure they don't have any problem with this,
but many people enjoy celebrating their birthdays.
-
Gatherings: Be a host to some gatherings. Have a Super Bowl Sunday party,
New Year's Eve party, or go to the fireworks on the Fourth of July as a
group if people will be around. By doing this shows you want their company
for functions that are not related to work.
Appreciating your staff is essential. Of all your resources, the human
resources you have are the most valuable. Never take them or their assistance
for granted. If you do, it may be disappear.
