Richard "Huk" Planas' Forms Series (Video)
by Joshua Meredith

I remember the first time I watched one of Huk Planas' videos. I think it was Short Form 2 and although I had learned the form over a year ago, I couldn't believe the amount of information that was coming through on the tape. From the beginning I was simply astounded by the amount of information. I remember trying to hurriedly scribble down notes about Short Form 2 as the tape went on.

Richard "Huk" Planas, known as a walking encyclopedia of American Kenpo, has a thirteen volume video series that covers all the forms from Short Form 1 up through Long Form 6. There is also a tape on basics and yellow belt techniques.

I have seen viewed all of his tapes up through Long Form 4. All are packed with information from beginning to end. If any of you have had the chance to be in the seminar with Mr. Planas, you know exactly what I am referring to. He admits he would prefer to work out your mind rather than your body- you have your normal classes for working out.

And he does work your mind in person as well as in these forms tapes. Long Form 4 is a two-tape series and there is sufficient information to require these two tapes.

I recommend them to anyone and everyone who wants to see the American Kenpo forms and know why we do what we do. Even though there is a ton of information about the forms, it is not treated as new information but is related back to previous forms and techniques. Lines are laid out on the floor to further illustrate angle changes and their reasons.

I have enjoyed working with Mr. Planas numerous times at seminars in the Cleveland area, Louisville, KY area, and Lafayette, Indiana. I have enjoyed watching his tapes as well and will continue to enjoy the enlightenment he sheds on why we do what we do.

The video series is available in the KenpoNet Mall.
