Mike Vassolo

Mr. Mike Vassolo began his martial arts training in 1977 in Goju-Shorei. Three years later, in 1980, he began studying Kenpo under John McSweeney. He has since taught a series of self-defense courses at various places, like Senior Citizen Self-Defense at Triton College, Personal Defense at the College of DuPage, women's self-defense classes, and advanced concepts of self-defense against weapons at his own school in Glen Ellyn, Illinois. He has written two books: the first is Kamikaze Fighting and the second being Desperate Measures: Unarmed Self-Defense Against Guns, Knives, and Clubs. Today Mr. Vassolo holds a 7th degree black belt in kenpo under John McSweeney. He is the executive vice president and founding director of the American Kenpo Karate Association and the editor of the AKKA Newsletter, of which he has written many articles for.
